Friday June 29 Denali National Park

Drove 120 miles from Fairbanks to Denali National Park.  Easy drive, with lots of mountain views.  We are staying at a campground outside the park called Midnight Sun Campground.  A fairly low end campground but there is plenty of room for our camper and Jeep.  Went into Denali Park to the Visitor Center and the Bus system terminal.  In this park, you can only drive 15 miles of the 85 mile park road.  After 15 miles it is a dirt road.  For the rest, you have to take buses.  Bus trips range from 3 hour round trips to 11 hours.  Prices range from $31 to $55.  On these trips you are allowed to get off at anytime and hike from the road.  They don't have a lot of formal trails.   After hiking you just flag down a bus on the road and if there is room, you get a ride.

We haven't seen Denali Mountain yet.  From this side of the park, other mountains are in the way.  However, according to the park rangers, 3 out of 4 people don't get to see Denali Mountain, whether it is covered up by low clouds, or they never leave this part of the park, where other mountains are in the way.

Cool day here (low 60's), with a little rain and then in cleared up.  As I am writing this, Cindy and I are at the campground laundry doing our laundry.  When was the last time I used a laundry mat?

In the evening the rain came and chased us into the camper.  Rained a good part of the night.
