Monday 6/11/2018 South Dakota

Got a fairly early start this morning at 7:30 Central time on the eastern side of South Dakota.  Started off with a fairly good tail wind, but that changed at some point to a really strong headwind, which is what we expect going west across the plains.  Overcast for the first part of the drive, but it changed to full sun about 1/2 thru the day.

Along the way we stopped at Badlands National Park in SD.  We have been there a number of times and we have a favorite hike (Castle Trail).  We hiked that today for about a 6.5 mile round trip.  In the Badlands NP, it is like the South West desert, being very dry and very little vegetation.    We did have some mountain goats almost run us over while we were on the trail.  They were determined to get up on this particular rock and we were in the way.

After our hike, we drove the rest of the way to a KOA campground in Rapid City.  Campground is not too impressive, but it fits our needs while we are in Rapid City for a couple of days.

Going across South Dakota - Trees are rare

Stop along the road - Lots of sky
