Sunday June 17 and Monday June 18 Banff

Sunday June 17

Rain cleared today.  Moved over to our Banff Campsite.  We got one of the last sites available in the Park in the Tunnel Mountain Trailer Park.   We were warned when reserving, that this site did not have much privacy and such, but it turned out to be a great site.  Actually better than any State Park campground in the States.  Full hookup and everything.

We did go on a short hike near the campground.  Ok hike after driving for a while.

End of the hike - Bow River  - Quick moving
lots of rafters on the river.  Looked really fun
as they moved along really fast.

Monday June 18

Weather was great today.  Early it was cool (50ish), then warmed to a bright sunny 72.  Started off with a really nice hike to Boom Lake (~8 miles round trip).  So far on our trip we have seen no mosquitoes.  Every other time we have been into Canada, we have always had them everywhere.  Our campgrounds have been very clear and so have all our hikes.   This hike was the same until we reached Boom Lake.  At the water there were swarms of mosquitoes.  Never got bit, but they were everywhere.  Beautiful hike anyhow.

After the hike we took the sunroof off the jeep and drove the highway 1A which is the scenic trip thru the park.  Cool drive.

Tomorrow we move onto Jasper NP, which is 120 miles north of Banff.  Supposed to be a great drive on the "Icefields Highway".  We stay there one night and then move on north.

Along the main highway thru the park, they created these
animal crossings.  This bridge was 75 yards wide and covered
in natural grass and such for the animals to cross.  They had
high fences all along the highway, except these crossings.
