Left Banff NP at
around 8am this morning and drove up HW 1 which heads up to Lake Louise
area. From there we took HW 93 which is
the Icefields Highway. Fantastic drive. We had the camper with the Jeep attached,
which made getting off a little harder.
There was a bit of construction along the way. One time they stopped us for about 1/2
hour. It was actually kind of cool as
the mountain views were great and we got out and walked around, took some
pictures and chatted with the other drivers.
We ended up at Jasper BC which is in the center of Jasper NP. Got a campsite at the Whistler Campground
which is part of the Jasper NP campgrounds.
Huge campground with 800 sites, but it is spread out quite a bit. From our site we can barely see a
neighbor. Temps today were actually
quite warm (in the upper 80's), with bright sun.
Wasn't too impressed
with Jasper. Maybe because it was very
hot. We had the idea of taking a late
afternoon hike, but it was too hot to hike.
We hung around town and had pizza at a local restaurant. The campsite in Jasper NP was fairly
nice. No services at all, which was
ok. Just like Banff, the place was full
of rental RV's. Cooled down really nice
in the evening and night.
As we start heading
north, the daylight hours are increasing quite a bit. Tonight I am guessing it finally got dark
about 11:30 and was light again starting around 4am or so. We haven't had any problem adjusting to that
when we still go to bed around 10 and start getting up around 6am.
Tomorrow we head out
to Dawson Creek BC where we have campsite reserved at a private
campground.
