Today we decided to
chill and hang around Fairbanks, doing a lot of nothing and catching up on
things. Washed the Jeep (there are
places to wash cars and RV's everywhere), cleaned the camper, etc. We put together portable gas grill that we
bought. We brought a portable charcoal
grill but we found on the trip, that in the Northwest, Canada and Alaska, that
forest fires are such a big deal that no burning is allowed, which includes
charcoal grills.
Bought some bear
spray for our hikes (recommended by everyone for up here) and mosquito netting
to go over our head. We have had good
luck with no mosquitoes so far, but as we get into some of the other areas, we
decided to play it safe and have these.
On the drive to Arctic Circle yesterday, we made a couple of stops where
the bugs were in clouds, buzzing around our heads.
Went to downtown
Fairbanks where they had a riverside bike path that followed the Chena River
thru town. We walked on it for a few
miles. Got back to the campsite, went
for a run and tried out our brand new grill with some burgers. Perfect weather evening. Sat down by the river and read our books,
while kayaks and tubes floated by.
