Monday July 16 Harding Ice Field Trail

Today we drove to the Kenai Fjords National Park, which borders on the town of Seward.  Fairly large park, with only 1 access road that went 8 miles into the park.  At the end of this road, was the Harding Ice Field Trail.  It was about 4 miles to the end (8 mile round trip) and 3500 ft climb.  We hiked about 3/4 of the trail until we ran into too much snow at the upper levels.  The views of the Harding Ice Field and the Exit Glacier were awesome.   A lot of work to get there, but worth the trip.   Very busy trail, especially to the first view point (1.5 miles).  Big stop for a lot of the tour buses from the cruise ships.

Temps today started in the upper 40's and finished in the lower 60's.   Clear skies most of the day.  At the top of the trail, when the wind was coming off the glacier, it was very cool.

Lot of ups on this trail

360 degree views on the upper part of the hike

We hiked until the snow on the trail got crazy.  Really slippery going up or
down in the snow
