Took off on a hike
this morning on the Mount Baldy Trail which was about 10 miles from the
campground. Trail was not marked all
that well, so we started off thinking we were heading wrong after about 1 mile. Turned around and started heading back. Passed another hiker, who said that we were
on an alternative way to get up to Mt Baldy.
He said this way was easier. Glad
we took his suggestion as the new way was straight up in a few places with a
lot of loose rocks. He said the other
way was entirely that way. It was about
a 1500 ft climb and 2.5 miles to get to the top. As we neared the top, the wind started to
pick up. At the bottom of the trail, it
was dead calm. By the time we got to the
top, the wind was like something we had never felt before. It was very hard to stand. Got off a few pics and headed back down. It was tricky going down, because now it was
very steep, loose rocks and the wind was wanting to throw us off the
mountain. Once we got down about 200 ft,
the wind calmed down. The wind must
have been hitting the front side of the mountain, while on the backside it was
protected. Anyhow the wind was crazy at
the top.
Spent the rest of
the day chilling and doing some shopping for necessities.
Temps were in the
upper 50's and raining off and on all day.
