Saturday July 14 Homer Touring

Stayed in Homer another day.    Weather was overcast and cool.  Low 50's.  Never rained until the evening.   Our campground and it seems all around Homer, there are tons of bald eagles.  They were everywhere near the campground.  In the trees, along the banks of the beach and on the beach.  Huge birds.   I didn't know that they didn't actually get the "bald" looking head until they were around 5 years old, as there were young ones around.

Today we toured the area in the jeep.  Went down into the old town of Homer (not much), and then took the East End Road along Kachemak Bay until it ended.  This was about a 20 mile drive thru the mountains along the bay.  Great drive.  We ended on a dirt road for a couple more miles and finally a very steep dirt road that went down about 400 feet to the bay.   This was a bit scary as we really didn't know how it would come out.  Seen other car tracks so we kept going.  Had the jeep in 4wd low/low to get down and again to get back up.  Once we did it, it was fun.  Luckily we didn't pass any other vehicles, because there was nowhere to pass.  We saw some folks getting their ATVs ready to go down the road.

Got back to the campground and took a long walk around the area, watching the eagles and the activity at the boat launch area.

At the end of the jeep trail, at the "beach".  This was the very end of Kachamak
Bay
