Got up this morning
to a rainy day. We had reserved a bus
trip at Denali NP to the Eielson Visitor Center. Our scheduled time was 8:30 am and returning
4:40 pm. It was setup that if we wanted
to get off at any point, then we could jump off, hike around and then catch a
returning bus coming down the road.
We got on the bus at
the scheduled time, and the driver was very informative. However, it rained almost the entire
trip. It made some scheduled stops along
the way that we got off at, but it was raining.
Our plan was to jump off and hike, but it was so cold and rainy, that we
just hung with the bus the entire day.
We did see some places to jump off the next time we do this trip (maybe
Wednesday). The idea is that there are
no trails in the park (hardly), and you can get off at any time and just
hike. We found some places along some
creeks that we were going to try. All in
all, it was a very long day and by the end of it, we were glad to be off the
bus.
While we didn't get
off the bus, we did see a lot of wildlife along the trip. Grizzly Bears, Foxes, Dall Mountain Goats,
Caribou and even a wolf. Apparently
seeing a wolf at the park is fairly rare.
Most of these were way off in the distance, so photographing from a
shaky bus thru the window was a challenge.
It was still raining on our drive back to the
campground and thru the evening. The
weather today was raining and 55 to 60 most of the day.
