Thursday July 19
We decided to go
ahead and pack up and drive to Valdez today.
We knocked around the campground and took care of a few things and then
headed out around 11. One of the
challenges we had while in Seward was getting good wifi. The campground had wifi, but it was way
overused. We found that the library in
town had wifi and we went to use it yesterday afternoon, but again, it was
overused. There was a crowd of kids in
one of the rooms gaming. So we cheated
this morning and sat outside the library before it opened and camped on the
library wifi.
We knew that we were
taking the trip to Valdez into 2 days, so we were in no hurry today. We had to go north, back thru Anchorage on a
lot of the roads we already took.
Stopped at a cool place along the way for lunch. Towards the end of the day of driving, we
stopped at a pull-off for the night.
Really nice place along a lake, between a bunch of mountains.
The weather today
was clear again and highs in the lower 60's.
Great day weather wise.
Friday July 20
Continued our drive
to Valdez this morning. What a
beautiful drive today towards Valdez.
Lots of mountain views, canyons, glaciers, etc. We decided that we are going to repeat some
of this drive in our jeep, so we can stop a lot more and explore.
We got a campsite at
a campground in-town. We weren't
planning on doing this, but Valdez is a little bit different harbor town
yet. Seems like more of a working town
than either Homer or Seward. Lots of
fishing boats. We lucked into a great
campsite right along the entrance of the marina, so we can see all the boats
coming and going. We think this is kind
of cool, having the opportunity to sit back and watch the activity.
Went into town for
dinner. Nice walk thru town. Had a campfire this evening at our campsite,
and sat back and watched the boats coming in for the day. All shapes and sizes. Wonderful evening.
The weather today
was very nice again. Very clear with
highs in the low 60's.
