Took our time
getting going this morning, as we were planning to move on and knew that
Anchorage rush hour was going to be a bear.
Our path has to go thru the heart of Anchorage. Went for a run (past Momma Moose and young
one), and then got going. We did see a
black bear leaving out the back of our campground in the morning. Later seen it running up the road away from
the campground.
Drove alongside
Turnagain Arm which is an inlet off of the ocean. Tide was 1/2 out again. Beautiful drive, with the mountains in the
background. Not quite as windy as a
couple of days ago. At Portage, we went
right (west) to head across the Kenai Peninsula. From Portage to the town of Kenai which was
where we were headed, it was all about fishing.
Mostly sport fishing as we went along.
At Kenai, which is along the west coast of the Kenai Peninsula, there
was a lot more commercial fishing.
At the town of
Kenai, we headed up the coast to our campground called Captain Cook Discovery
State Park. Not to be confused with
Captain Hook and Peter Pan, even though the name sounds like an amusement park. Kind of off the beaten path and this
campground was almost empty, except the sites that had a small ocean view thru
the trees. The campground has that
rainforest feel, with deep vegetation.
