Shipped off on a
boat tour of the Kenai Fjords National Park and surrounding areas. This was an 8 hour boat ride that left from
Seward. Great day for this weather wise
as the temps on-shore were supposed to be in the low 60's. On the boat it was quite a bit cooler, as is
typical of these tours. Never heard the
temps, but Cindy and I had on down coats, hats and gloves. The sun was bright almost all day.
We saw all kinds of
wildlife on this trip including humpback whales, sea lions, dolphins, otters,
seals, puffins, all kinds of sea birds and bald eagles. There were a lot of birds the guy called
"whale birds", because when they were gathered in a bunch, it was a
good sign that a whale might be around.
This was because they (birds and whales) feed on the same small fish (he
called them bait fish). The scenery in the various inlets and bays was
awesome. There were multiple glaciers
along the way and one that we stopped in front of. Very cool watching the glacier break off and
crash into the ocean. The edge of the
glacier was 200 ft tall, and we were about 1/4 mile from the edge. It looked massive. I hope the pictures I took will do this trip
justice. It was a long day on the boat,
but well worth it. The cruise ship
captain was very good and kept it entertaining.
We ended the tour with a salmon and prime rib dinner on Fox Island,
which was just up the coast from Seward.
A lot of pics in this post as I took a lot of pics on this day as it was a perfect weather day for pics. Actually hard to take pics from a rolling boat.

Seward city campground from the boat. This was a commercial
area until the 1964 earthquake. They just allow a campground now.
