Wednesday July 4 Denali NP Chill-out day

After hiking for the last few days, we decided to take it easy today from hiking and did some tourist things.   Another perfect day here weather wise.  Mostly sunny starting at lower 60's and finishing in mid 70's.

Went to see a sled dog demonstration at Denali NP.  They maintain a team of 31 sled dogs that apparently they do use thru the winter.  These were Alaskan Huskies, which looked a lot different than our picture of how a sled dog should look like.   Cool demonstration of the dogs, what the job of each of the dogs are, depending on where they line up.

We had our first campfire of the trip this evening!   We haven't had fires along the way, mostly because of burning restrictions usually in place in the northwest.  It was a pretty warm evening for a fire, but it still felt good.  There were some bugs that kept landing on us.  At first we thought they were harmless, but then they started biting.  1/2 long black bugs, some sort of beetle.  They were swarming on us and seemed to ignore bug spray.

Tomorrow we're planning another hike in the park.  Hopefully the weather holds out as there is a good chance of rain.

In the town of Healy - Nenana River - River is the color of gray sludge
which comes from the glaciers that feed it.  Looks like a wild ride
for rafters.
Nenana River - Really moves fast

Small tourist town outside the park - Looks like it was tough making
a living at it, with such a short season.
