These days, we really pushed thru on the driving, trying to get home. Not a lot of stops, as we have travelled this part many times. Slightly different route and we tried a few new campgrounds.
Thursday 8/2 Drive
to Jamestown North Dakota
Got up early today
for a run thru the town of Malta Montana.
Not much of a town, but they had a city park with a nice path along the
river. The trains were kind last night,
as we never heard them until 7ish in the morning, when they started rattling
the area. There was a train bridge over
the river that the trains used as they went by, and this amplified the
vibrations and sound.
Passed by the
Theodore Roosevelt National Park on the way.
We stopped by for a little bit.
Not many entrances into the park.
Took a few pics and were on our way.
We will probably hit this park another time, as it looks like it might
be interesting. A bit like the Badlands
National Park in South Dakota, being very dry, lots of canyons and colors.
We stopped in
Jamestown North Dakota for the night at the Frontier Fort Campground. At first it sounded kind of goofy, but it
turned out to be a very nice place to camp.
Right next to a big tourist attraction called the Frontier Fort. After driving all day, we ate at the
restaurant that they had at the campground.
Pleasantly surprised with the food and service. Walked around Frontier Fort where the shops
were closed but everything was open. We
asked the waitress if there was a way to get to the city park which we could see
from the restaurant. Turns out there was
a path to the park from that area. It
was a great city park with tons of paths, picnic area and lots of baseball
diamonds. They must have a minor league
baseball team.
Temps were very warm
today with the highs in the low 90's most of the day. Bright sun.
At the very end of the day, as we travelled east, the temps all of a
sudden dropped 15 degrees, so that when we stopped, it was a very comfortable low to mid 70's.

Good for another visit sometime.

Friday 8/3 Drive to
Cedar Falls Iowa
Got up early again
today for a run/walk thru the city park before we took off for our next
stop. Not a real exciting drive today,
as we headed past Minneapolis and then south towards Iowa. Lots of driving these days.
Stopped at Big Woods Campground outside of Cedar Falls Iowa. Nice place for a stop-over. It was a County Park, of which there are a lot of in Iowa. Lots of local families camping for the weekend.
Weather was warm in
the upper 80's. Overcast a good part of
the day.

Saturday 8/4 Drive
to Home
Got up real early
today and headed out for our final push home.
Starting from eastern Iowa, thru Illinois and then Indiana. Lots of construction on this final leg from
mid-Illinois to Indianapolis. With all
the miles that we put in, we've been really lucky that we didn't seem to hit
more road construction.
Arrived home around
5pm. REALLY GLAD TO BE HOME!
